After a short stint in the U.S. Air Force, Kingsland, Arkansas born John R. Cash moved to Memphis with his first wife, Vivian, in 1954. As a door to door salesman, Cash aspired to become a musician by trade, eventually cutting smash hits “Folsom Prison Blues” and “I Walk the Line” for the Sun label. Before signing with Columbia in 1958 and becoming a world renown country artist, Johnny Cash spent his formative years musically at Sun Records, playing a pivotal role in the city’s rockabilly fabric.
